In this session at the National Student Media Convention, we'll reveal historical tidbits from the 100+ years of student radio in the Philadelphia area and will outline ways to preserve and showcase materials from your own station. 

The Philly area is home to numerous college and high school radio stations, many with fascinating histories. One of the first student-built stations was launched in 1923 at Haverford College. Haverford High School has one of the longest-running high school stations. And several Philly-area college stations collaborated to share programs over a regional network in the 1940s. 

We will explain why it's important to tell your own station's story, talk about what you should be saving, and provide resources from the Radio Preservation Task Force and the Internet Archive's Digital Library of Amateur Radio and Communications (DLARC) to help you with archival and preservation projects at your station.
